My 2 Cents
10/14/08
Texas Tech Game

Commentary by David Max

What a difference a week makes. We didn't get the win and there is little consolation in the "moral victory" in defeat but you have to be pleased with the play of the team compared to the Missouri game. It is obvious that there is no quit in this team. There is also a lot less of throwing under the bus going on in message boards and blogs on the Internet since the Texas Tech game.

The stock market took an upturn yesterday to follow the optimism of Nebraska fans. It is still going to be a bumpy ride before we as fans get back to the expectation of decisive wins in every game that we play. After the Missouri games there were predictions of possibly losing every remaining game on the schedule. Now the prevailing prediction is going 5-1 for the rest of the season with the only loss being to Oklahoma on the road.

There was an analogy discussed on the BBS about how football fans are like teenage girls that fall in and out of love with their team every 24 hours. The expectation going into the season was one of eternal optimism and suffering through three losses in a row has been tough on the Husker faithful. The fact that the coaches and players were able to make the improvement from one week to the next has renewed some of that optimism. My expectation is that the team will continue to improve and the mistakes will be fewer. The personal foul penalties need to be nonexistant and any player that gets one against Iowa State should be running more stadium steps than Jerry Murtaugh ever thought about running.

Tom Shatel wrote an article today about the state of the Husker nation one year after the firing of Steve Pederson. I agree with his assessment that we are moving on and the future does look bright in spite of the fact that there may be some more bumps in the road before we get to our final destination of the return to respectability. Getting that first win against a Top 19 ranked team since 2001 will tell us we are on our way and it could happen as soon as November 8th.

Just my 2 cents. What about yours?

GO BIG RED!!!
