Alumni Chapter Empowerment Letter

This letter was written by Tim Carrothers, the President of the Coloradans for Nebraska Alumni Chapter and Husker Nation Booster Club and circulated to alumni and booster club chapter leaders nationwide. Several chapter leaders have requested that it be published.

We have received several communications from embarrassed, disappointed, angered, and just plain “mad” chapter members, leaders, friends, volunteers, and supporters, looking for answers. Not a person can comprehend the Husker situation, as of this moment, without bewilderment of what the future is for our storied program. We all are feeling different emotions but what about the players, the young people living this “Real Live” reality show, on a daily basis.

What can we do as “The Husker Faithful”? We can stop complaining, accusing, trash talking , and etc., this doesn’t get us any where, or solve any of the challenges that these kids are going through. Sure, we could leave this on the shoulders of the coaching staff, the A.D. or even the Chancellor or the President of UN system and WHY NOT? Because we are the Greatest Fans and Supporters in the world – at least that’s what has been bestowed upon us from every other competitor, that has come to Lincoln.

Alright, enough is enough, we are proposing that we all get behind OUR KIDS and give them the encouragement to stand tall, feel compassion – not anger, concern - not coldness, empathy - not finger pointing, show them the “HUSKER SPIRIT” the same as when they’re winning.

Let’s send the message of our faith in them with E – mails, cards, or notes of encouragement!. If they’re not feeling or displaying unity like a team, then all of us need to set the example. When each and everyone of us were growing up, we didn’t always get the job done, come out on top, win every contest, doubted ourselves and abilities – we sought out a “personal power boost”, compassionate understanding, and positive reinforcement, the real meaning of the “POWER OF RED” !!!!!!!!! It’s not a COLOR, - it’s us – “The Husker Faithful” and our undying belief in the “Big Red Mystic”.

We are a force to be reckoned with – think of the strength we project, put your self in these players place and mind set, on a day today basis, we can help them to help themselves, to get the “Husker Spirit” BACK!!!!! To feel the POWER of the “Black Shirt Legacy”, grab hold of the “Big Red” offence heritage – POWER FOOTBALL!!!

So instead of reading all the media hype, let’s give these young people something POSITIVE that we as fans accept as true – FAITH IN THEIR ABILITY! They were all chosen, recruited, fought for a position, on this team, we need to remind them of this. Did you ever get a letter while you were at camp, what a boost a piece of mail gave you, if you were having a tough time, it could turn your whole experience around (if you let it).
