Nebraska quarterback Dave Humm set one national record and three Big 8 marks as the lefthander from Las Vegas led the Huskers to a 56-0 humiliation of Big 8 opponent Kansas. Kansas entered the game 4-1 and had earlier in the year beaten nationally ranked Texas A&M. But the formidable Jayhawks never got off the ground thanks to a tough Black Shirt defense and the offensive brilliance of Humm. Humm hit 23 of 27 passes for three touchdowns and 230 yards. His completion percentage of 85.2 was both a Big 8 record and Nebraska record. His three touchdown passes gave him 36 for the year, also a conference mark. But the most phenomenal record of all was that from the second through the fourth quarters, Humm hit 15 consecutive passes. That set a national and Big 8 record.
But it wasn't all offense. Nebraska's defense limited KU to four first downs and 143 total yards, and the Black Shirts intercepted two passes and recovered a fumble.
Nebraska now takes a 1-1 conference mark and a 4-2 overall figure into its game with always tough, Big 8 opponent Oklahoma State. LINCOLN JOURNAL STAR  |
