Despite a 48-7 win the previous week, the Huskers dropped one in the AP poll and entered Seattle No. 12 to face the No. 2 Washington Huskies.

In the nationally televised game, Washington, aided by a boisterous crowd, scored first on a safety after the Husker defense held the Huskies on their first three drives. Washington scored again on its first possession of the second quarter to take a 9-0 lead, but with 7:23 remaining, I-back Calvin Jones broke loose for a 73-yard score. UW put up its second TD with 1:29 remaining in the first half, intercepted a Mike Grant pass and put it in the end zone again to take a 23-7 halftime lead.

NU closed within 23-14 early in the third but was unable to overcome a strong Husky defense as Washington won the game 29-14.

The NU blackshirts played well, led by OLB Travis Hill, who had 13 tackles. Derek Brown had 84 of NU's 176 yards rushing, and surpassed the 2,000 mark for career rushing yards. Jones had 79 yards, and the "We-back" tandem of Jones and Brown also led NU in receiving with six catches for 44 yards.
