Sept. 25, 2002 Huskers sweep Red Raiders Lubbock TX -- Senior setter Greichaly Cepero produced 10 kills on a .769 hitting percentage to go along with 38 assists and 12 digs to lead the fifth-ranked Nebraska volleyball team to a 30-24, 30-12, 30-23 win at Texas Tech Wednesday night at the United Spirit Arena. The triple-double was Cepero’s first since Dec. 1, 2001 against Kansas State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Cepero, who also recorded four blocks, led NU to a .347 hitting percentage. Four Huskers hit over .350. Senior middle blocker Amber Holmquist tallied a match-high 15 kills while swinging at a .423 clip. Senior outside hitter Laura Pilakowski totaled nine kills on a .438 percentage, and Melissa Elmer posted seven kills on a .357 hitting percentage. Leading 22-17 in game one, Nebraska began to pull away when Schrad pounded back-to-back kills. The Huskers led 28-22 after kills from Cepero, Jennifer Saleaumua and Pilakowski. Tech’s Kelly Johnson put a jump serve into the net to force a game-point situation, but Melissa McGehee stopped Nebraska momentarily and set a new Texas Tech record with the 1,084th kill of her career. But Saleaumua answered on the following play with a kill from the right side for the 30-24 NU victory. The Huskers controlled the entire second game, racing to a 20-6 lead. Holmquist, who had seven kills in the period, produced four kills down the stretch, as NU took a 30-12 win in game two. The Red Raiders’ point total was the second lowest in single game by a Nebraska opponent this season. The Huskers out-hit Texas Tech .559 to minus -.027 in game two. Nebraska was never threatened in game two, and led 21-14 after a kill by Saleaumua ended the longest rally of the night. The Huskers widened their advantage to 24-14 after junior middle blocker Sara Westling notched her first kill of the night. NU wrapped up the 30-23 third-game win and the match with a kill by Cepero. The Huskers return to action Sunday when they play host to the Nebraska Volleyball Classic. NU will face Creighton at 4 p.m. at the Bob Devaney Sports Center following a 2 p.m. match between UNO and UNK.
