Huskers sweep Baylor
 
Waco, TX -- Seniors Amber Holmquist and Laura Pilakowski combined for 30 kills and hit .560 and .522, respectively, to lead the No. 5 Nebraska volleyball team to a 30-23, 30-19, 30-19, victory over Baylor Saturday afternoon at the Ferrell Center.

With the win, Nebraska captured at least a share of its sixth Big 12 championship. The Huskers, 26-1 overall and 18-0 in the league, held a two-game lead over second-place Kansas State heading into the weekend. KSU faces Texas at 7 p.m. tonight in Austin. Nebraska has won five of a possible six Big 12 titles outright ­– all but the 1997 title. The Huskers, won have won 24 Big 12/Big Eight titles in 26 seasons, have won 68 straight regular-season matches against conference teams.

Sophomore Ally Rebholz joined Pilakowski and Holmquist in double figures. In the first start of her career, Rebholz posted 10 kills on a .529 hitting percentage with five blocks, both career-best totals.

Nebraska hit .434 as a team while out-blocking Baylor 9-2.

The Huskers raced to a 18-12 lead in game one behind four kills from Pilakowski and three each from Rebholz and Holmquist. Baylor scored six of the next nine points to close the gap to 21-18, but Elmer had three kills down the stretch to pace Nebraska. With Rebholz at the service line, NU wrapped up the 30-23 win on a Baylor hitting error.

NU hit .410 in game one, led by Pilakowski, who tallied seven kills on eight swings for a .875 hitting percentage. The Huskers out-blocked Baylor, 3-0, and held the Bears to a .162 mark.

Nebraska carried its momentum into game two. Holmquist dominated Baylor at the net, and NU held its largest advantage of the match at 21-7 after a kill by Schrad. The Huskers maintained at least a nine-point lead the rest of the way, and NU took the second-game 30-19, after back-to-back kills by Rebholz.

With the game tied at 10 in game three, redshirt freshman Michelle Lynch reeled off four straight points, including a service aces, with her jump serve to give NU a 14-10 advantage. Junior defensive specialist Jenae Dowling also ran four points from behind the service line to extend the Huskers’ lead to 20-13. Lynch served the final two points of the match, as NU took the third game, 30-19.s

Tisha Schwartz recorded 10 for Baylor, which fell to 9-20 overall and 2-15 in the Big 12.

Nebraska returns to action Wednesday, Nov. 27, when it faces No. 24 Missouri in a 7 p.m. match at the Hearnes Center in Columbia, Mo.
